Magna — If you normally drive S-R 201 through Magna better plan around it this weekend. Five Miles of S-R 201 in Magna will be completely closed this weekend as workers replace pipes for the Kennecott mine.
The closure starts at 2am on Saturday and will last until Sunday night at 10pm.
Utah Department of Transportation‘s John Gleason says this will probably cause the biggest delays on Sunday.
“There’s a lot of work happening across the state and some of it is not even ours but it impacts our roads and so we want to let people know what the expectations are – how they can avoid getting stuck in any delays,” said Gleason.
Rio Tinto will be doing the work, replacing pipes that deliver water to Kennecott mine. The pipes run above the freeway making it hard to do the work unless the whole road is closed.
Gleason says they try to coordinate for these project when there will be less traffic on the roads.
Gleason says the road will open again at 10pm on Sunday, in plenty of time for the Monday morning commute.
We want to hear from you.
