2 hospitalized after separate auto-pedestrian crashes in same intersection

WEST VALLEY CITY — Two auto-pedestrian crashes occurred Thursday morning at the intersection of 4700 South and 5600 West, on the border of West Valley City and Kearns, according to police.
The situation is still being investigated, but police say that the first driver was cooperative. The second accident was a hit-and-run.
The first crash happened on the Kearns side of the crosswalk when a car hit a teen boy. The second incident happened at the same intersection when a good Samaritan stopped to help, but was hit by a car. A separate car was driving west and hit both the teen and the man who was assisting.
The teen suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital in fair condition. The man suffered injuries to his leg and was taken to the hospital in good condition, according to police.
The driver who hit them was driving a dark colored SUV and fled the scene, according to police.
