UDOT reveals new 2026 road construction projects

SALT LAKE CITY — It’s going to be a busy year for Utah’s Department of Transportation. UDOT just released its list of major construction projects for the year, and some of the biggest changes are coming to Davis County.
At the top of UDOT’s plans for 2026 — Legacy Parkway will expand from two lanes to three lanes in each direction from Interstate 215 in North Salt Lake to Farmington, but the project won’t expand the road. UDOT plans to build the new lanes in the existing grassy median. Construction has already begun and is expected to finish by the end of the year.
UDOT will also extend the West Davis Highway from where it currently ends in Syracuse to 1800 North in West Point. Major construction will begin this summer and last through the middle of 2029.
UDOT will also repave part of Interstate 80 in Parley’s Canyon and perform bridge repairs.
Crews will expand the S-Line streetcar in Sugar House from Fairmont Station into the heart of Sugar House at Highland Drive and Simpson Avenue.
In St. George, UDOT will widen Interstate 15 from two lanes to three lanes between Bluff Street and St. George Blvd.
“We have to look at not only how people are traveling today but how they’re going to travel in the future, 20 or 30 years from now, and the decisions we make today are going to greatly benefit everyone who’s traveling years and decades from now,” said UDOT Public Relations Director John Gleason.
The full list includes 176 construction projects — worth $2.8 billion dollars — all starting this year, and then ongoing work for another 57 projects already underway.
In total, UDOT will fix worn-down pavement and bridges, expand roads, improve safety on highways and intersections, ease bottlenecks in busy corridors and expand options for walking, biking and public transit.
