SALT LAKE CITY — June marks the beginning of Pride month and to celebrate, the Utah Pride Center will host its annual Pride Festival in downtown Salt Lake on Saturday and Sunday.

A hallmark of the festival is the Pride parade. This year, it takes place on Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Ahead of the parade, the Salt Lake City Police Department sent out a reminder that it would close certain streets downtown temporarily to accommodate the parade route.

The parade begins at 100 South and West Temple.

The parade route goes east down 100 South, turns south on 400 East, then turns west onto 700 South.

The parade ends at 700 South and 200 East.

Road closures

Aside from the parade route’s impact on traffic, additional closures will be in place.

The Utah Pride Center’s map showed that there would be a barricade closure near the parade beginning affecting:

  • South Temple between 200 West and State Street.
  • 100 South between 200 West and 300 West.
  • 200 West between South Temple and 200 South.
  • West Temple between North Temple and 200 South.

The SLCPD will also have closures in place at the end of the parade. These closures affect:

  • 200 East between 600 South and 800 South.
  • 700 South between State Street and 200 East.

The SLCPD also said it currently has 200 East between 400 South and 500 South closed as crews set up.

Avoid the traffic and closures

The SLCPD recommended using public transit, carpooling or ride-sharing to get around the area during the festival this weekend.

Police estimated that 100,000 would attend this year’s festival.
