SALT LAKE CITY — Heavy rain and multiple crashes caused delays for drivers across the Wasatch Front on Wednesday morning.

Morning crashes

Around 10:30 a.m. there was a crash involving a car hauler, which blocked three left lanes, causing traffic.

According to Lt Cam Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol, the hauler jackknifed and spilled engine fuel, antifreeze and diesel fuel. This spill activated a hazmat response to clean up the area.

As of noon on Wednesday, drivers can expect traffic to be backed up due to this crash.

As of 11:15 a.m., a crash in Roy on northbound I-15 had closed two left lanes.

As of 9:30 a.m., a crash on southbound I-15 in Springville included multiple vehicles and blocked two right lanes and the shoulder of the roadway. By 9:40 a.m., the crash blocked three right lanes and the shoulder as cleanup started.

This came after northbound I-15 was closed for almost an hour due to multiple crashes in Springville.

At 5 a.m., traffic on eastbound I-80 was at a standstill due to a rolled semi truck, KSL traffic reporter Heather Kelly said.

Wet roads contributed to traffic on northbound Bangerter Highway after a crash near the I-80 connector ramp.

Wet roads also blocked several lanes on southbound I-15 in Spanish Fork.

A crash on southbound I-15 near Layton Parkway left two cars on the side of the road.

“Roads are very wet in the area, please slow down for safety,” Kelly reported.

More rain expected

KSL meteorologist Matt Johnson said scattered showers would continue through the day and into Thursday.

Johnson said the Wasatch Front would dry up for Friday and Saturday, but another storm would hit Sunday.
