SALT LAKE CITY — Thunderstorms making their way through Utah on Tuesday caused wet road conditions for drivers throughout the Wasatch Front.
Heather Kelly with the KSL Traffic Center said the roads looked like a river on traffic cameras between Woods Cross and 1100 North in Salt Lake City.

Tuesday’s weather forecast
The National Weather Service said to expect heavy rain with the potential of flooding in some areas.
“There is also a chance of gusty winds and small hail, particularly later in the day,” the NWS said.
A passing cold front is bringing widespread showers to a large portion of northern Utah this morning that will continue into the afternoon hours. Heavy rain from these storms will produce localized urban flooding, with a chance of gusty winds and small hail as well. #utwx #wywx pic.twitter.com/MIoSCxev8o

Driving on wet roads
The Utah Department of Transportation asks people to slow down and not to slam on their brakes when it’s raining to avoid hydroplaning.
“Increase your following distance. Wet roads can affect your braking distance,” UDOT said in a 2024 Facebook post.
The department also asks that people remember to turn their lights on while it’s raining, whether it’s day or night, to help others see a driver’s vehicle better.
“As we all know in Utah, the weather can change rather quickly. Now is the time to get your vehicle prepared for any and all kinds of conditions,” UDOT said.
