1 arrested after deadly shooting near East High School over bike theft, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — One person was killed, and another was arrested Tuesday morning in Salt Lake City after a shooting near East High School, reportedly over a bike theft, according to police in Salt Lake.
Salt Lake police identified the suspected shooter as 23-year-old Shane Hagaman, and the victim as 42-year-old Tyson Scott Babb. Police said Babb was stealing a bike, and Hagaman shot him.
Hagaman was booked into jail on suspicion of murder, police said.
Sgt. Greg Wilkin with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the shooting occurred just after 5 a.m. near 1300 East and 700 South.
Wilkin said there was some sort of “altercation” between a group of adults who were near the area before the shots were fired. Investigators didn’t know if the group knew each other or not.
School at East High would start as normal, Wilkin said, but the gas station across the street was blocked off as homicide detectives worked at the scene.
