7-year-old boy fights for life after being hit by car in Cedar City

SALT LAKE CITY — A 7-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was hit while riding a scooter in Cedar City Monday.
According to the Cedar City Police Department, the boy was hit in the 1100 North block of North Field Road just before 8:30 a.m.
Police said a woman driving an SUV was backing out of a parking space when she struck the child.
“The child sustained significant injuries, including head trauma, and was pinned under the vehicle,” police said.
Officers were able to free the boy from under the vehicle and immediately begin chest compressions to perform CPR.
A Gold Cross ambulance took him first to Cedar City Hospital before he was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, police said.
“We would like to express our appreciation for all the assistance the Cedar City Police Department received from surrounding agencies, during this incident,” the Cedar City Police Department said, in a statement. “We are grateful to have a community of first responders dedicated to the safety and well-being of our citizens.”
