A rockfall briefly closes highway through Zion National Park

SPRINGDALE, Utah — A rockfall occurred early Wednesday morning on Zion-Mount Carmel Highway, along the south entrance of Zion National Park. Maintenance crews were able to clear and remove debris, and the road is back open to the public.
There were no reports of injuries or vehicles damaged.
The closure was located from Canyon Junction to the east side of the Zion-Mt Carmel Tunnel.
Zion-Mt Carmel Highway is located in the Washington and Kane counties in Southern Utah.
According to the National Parks Traveler website, rockfalls occur often along this highway. An earlier rockfall at the beginning of June closed a different section of the same highway.
