SALT LAKE CITY — Several cities across Utah have announced firework restrictions in preparation for upcoming Fourth of July celebrations.

Overall, all areas in Utah have state-wide restrictions. Utah law says people can use fireworks from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 pm. July 2-5 and July 22-25.

Extended hours apply on July 4 and July 24, where people can shoot off fireworks until midnight.

Those not in compliance with state law could face a fine of up to $1,000.

Utah law restricts the following types of fireworks:

  • Cherry bombs
  • Roman candles
  • Skyrockets
  • Bottle rockets
  • Single shot mortars
  • M-80’s
  • Firecrackers
  • Any non-cake aerial devices

Sandy

Sandy is asking residents to not use personal fireworks and instead only attend professional firework shows.

Fire authorities worry that homeless camps could lead to fire risk as temperatures rise

“For those residents who are choosing to use fireworks to celebrate July 4th and 24th, we ask you to exercise extreme caution during the dry days of summer and especially with the extreme drought conditions, so that the life and safety of everyone in the city may be upheld,” the city said on their website.

Holladay

Holladay said they will permit the use of fireworks in some limited areas, all laid out on an interactive map on their city’s website.

Ogden

In Ogden, firework restrictions cover:

  • East of Harrison Boulevard from the south city boundary to 2nd Street, then north to Monroe and up to the Ogden City boundary
  • All wooded areas along the Ogden and Weber River Parkway
  • Fort Buenaventura, the city baseball park, and the dog park area
  • The old landfill property near Fort Buenaventura
  • All open fields, vacant lots, wooded areas, and brush-covered hillsides throughout the city

Tooele

The city of Tooele is specifically asking residents to go to the city’s fireworks show on July 5 instead of lighting their own fireworks.

“If residents choose to light their own fireworks, we urge you to be careful and always use common sense,” they said via Facebook post.

Fireworks will not be allowed in these areas:

  • North of 2200 North and West of Main Street (SR-36)
  • North of 1600 North and East of Main Street (SR-36)
  • South of Skyline Drive
  • South of Main Street (SR-36) West
  • West of 1000 West
  • East of Droubay Road

They also emphasized that fireworks are not allowed in any Tooele City Parks.

Southern Utah

Cedar City is urging people to use designated areas that are safe, including:

  • Cedar High School south parking lot
  • Bicentennial Softball Complex parking lot
  • Iron Springs Elementary parking lot
  • Canyon View High School parking lot
  • Aquatic Center Parking lot.

They are asking all fireworks to be disposed of safely in a bucket of water and dumpsters will be available at each designated area.

St. George has also designated firework areas. There are 19 parks available.

They are also noting one significant change from past years: fireworks are prohibited at the Fields at Little Valley due to the new turf surfaces.
