SALT LAKE CITY — Six people were arrested after police discovered stolen property, cash, firearms and three different types of drugs.
Heber City Police Department said in a Facebook post that the discovery was made when the Wasatch Back Major Crimes Task Force (WBMC) investigated burglaries and vehicle thefts happening in Heber City, Midway City and Wasatch County. Police also said those thefts started in January.
“As the investigation progressed, detectives from WBMC collaborated with the Park City Police Department after identifying similar incidents and potentially connected suspects operating in the Park City area,” the Heber City police said.
Eventually, police said on April 10 they were able to use evidence found to locate the residence where suspects’ may be located. On Thursday, officers said they were able to use two warrants to search Heber City residences.
“Detectives recovered a substantial amount of stolen property and cash believed to be linked to more than a dozen burglary cases throughout Heber City, Wasatch County, Park City, and Summit County,” police said. “Additionally, law enforcement seized methamphetamine, distributable quantities of crack cocaine and marijuana, and multiple firearms.”
Officers said six people were arrested during the search of the residences, all of which were undocumented immigrants. The six were arrested with charges including theft, possession with intent to distribute, failure to register as a sex offender, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, forgery and five counts of child endangerment.
“We extend our gratitude to all detectives and agencies who worked diligently on this investigation and continue working to return the recovered property to its rightful owners,” Heber City police said. “Special thanks to Wasatch/Heber SWAT, the Park City Police Department, the Utah Attorney General’s Office, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their critical support during the operation.”
