Young girl dies after getting caught in avalanche at Brighton Ski Resort

SALT LAKE CITY — A young girl has died after she was caught in an avalanche near Brighton Ski Resort Thursday afternoon.
Brighton ski patrol and Wasatch Backcountry Rescue responded to the avalanche just before 1 p.m. on Thursday. Detective Quin Wilkins with the Unified Police Department said the avalanche occurred in an area that was out of bounds for recreational skiing.
According to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s office, rescuers found the young girl in the avalanche’s path and immediately started first aid.
She was transported to a local hospital, but was ultimately pronounced dead.
Wilkins said the area where the avalanche took place has been cleared.
