SALT LAKE CITY — Utah will not have a November ballot initiative that would end the state’s hybrid system of putting candidates onto ballots.

Keep My Voice wanted to stop the Count My Vote law that allows candidates to get onto primary ballots either through Utah’s caucus and convention system or by gathering signatures.

Ironically, Keep My Voice failed to gather enough signatures. It needed 113,000 by 5 p.m. today to make November’s ballot. The movement’s chairman said he wanted Utahns to learn about the importance of neighborhood caucuses.

Utah’s GOP has spent more than $400,000 in legal fees to end Count My Vote. Proponents of that movement contend the caucus-convention system shuts out too many qualified candidates.

We want to hear from you.
