BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful police on Friday released surveillance camera video that shows a fatal shooting involving a pawn shop employee and a robbery suspect.

The 38-second video revealed just how quickly the botched robbery unfolded on the morning of May 4, 2018.

The camera recorded the employee walking a bike toward the door of Bountiful Pawn, 135 South 500 West shortly before 11 a.m. Bountiful police uploaded a clip of that recording to Youtube.

Warning: The video below contains graphic content. Viewer discretion is advised.

About 10 seconds into the clip, two men block the door from the outside of the business. One points a handgun at the employee, who responds by putting his hands up and backing away.

The man holding the gun then turns away momentarily to pull closed the door of the pawn shop. The employee uses that distraction and steps into an office.

The man with the gun pursues the employee, who retrieves a handgun from a desk in the office. As the suspect approaches, the pawn shop employee opens fire.

The shooting begins at the 23-second mark of the clip. That’s only 13 seconds after the employee was first confronted at the door. About 10 seconds later, the second suspect jumps over a counter and runs out of the pawn shop.

At that point, the employee leaves the office with what appears to be blood on his hand.

Bountiful police previously identified the suspected robber who was shot and killed as Kleydys Arbolaez-Hernandez, 40, of Denver.

Investigators determined the clerk who shot Arbolaez-Hernandez did so in self-defense. They did not seek criminal charges related to the shooting.

Police determined the second suspect who ran out of Bountiful Pawn was Alexander Cutino Sanchez, 31, of Houston. A manhunt followed, resulting in Sanchez’s arrest near Houston about three weeks after the robbery.

A federal grand jury indicted Sanchez in late June for 11 counts of robbery and 11 counts of using, carrying and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. The charges arose from the Bountiful Pawn robbery as well as mobile phone store robberies in Salt Lake City, West Jordan and West Valley City. The indictment also accused Sanchez of robbing a convenience store in Millcreek.

Federal prosecutors said Sanchez was also a suspect in several robberies in Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas. His arrest in June was on a warrant from the Oklahoma cases.
