SALT LAKE CITY — A 29-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his mother during an argument in their Bountiful home Saturday, leaving her critically injured.
The man, whose name is being withheld to protect the victim’s identity, was arrested Saturday after his brother contacted police, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Officers with the Bountiful Police Department said they were called on reports of a stabbing and found the victim unresponsive. Medical personnel reported that the victim sustained two stab wounds to the ear/neck area and one to the shoulder.
“Detectives interviewed [the suspect], who admitted that he stuck the knife in his mom multiple times. During the interview, [he] stated that after he stabbed his mom, ‘it wasn’t a happy ending, but it wasn’t remorse,'” the affidavit reads.
The victim’s husband told police he heard his wife scream and, upon entering the room, saw his son pushing the knife away from the suspect to prevent him from stabbing the victim again.
The victim was transported to the hospital and received emergency surgery. Police said, at last report, she was intubated and unresponsive in the Intensive Care Unit.
The suspect was booked in the Davis County Jail and is facing first-degree felony attempted murder and second-degree felony aggravated assault charges.
