Boy Scout troop sews stockings for newborns

RIVERTON — Babies born at Intermountain Riverton Hospital this December are wrapped in homemade Christmas Stockings instead of the standard blankets, thanks to the help of a boy scout.
13 year old Cameron Heppler says when he learned nurses have donated time to sew these stocking in years past, he wanted to help out.
“I wanted to give the nurses a break and decided to run it for them,” Heppler said, adding that he had a great time doing it. “When I sew I feel like I am pushing down the gas pedal of a car. It gives me a thrill.”
Heppler didn’t sew alone. He chose the project for his Eagle Scout and recruited the help of four adults and 13 of his fellow boy scouts. They had planned to sew 220 stockings but instead finished with 238. Heppler said it’s great knowing that these tiny babies are welcomed into the world with stockings that he helped construct.
