SALT LAKE CITY – A bystander was working to protect homes with a hose after a bush fire broke out in Washington County Sunday, police said.
At approximately 9:52 a.m., the Springdale Police Department said it responded to a brush fire near River Road in Rockville, according to a Facebook post from the department.
“When officers arrived an alert bystander had already grabbed a hose and was keeping the fire from moving towards any homes or structures,” the department said.
Along with police, the Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue, the Zion, and Color Country Fire units all responded to contain the fire, which was reportedly achieved “quickly.”
“Thank you to our firefighters and the alert citizens who acted quickly to keep this fire from spreading,” the Springdale Police Department said.
At the time of publication, the cause of the fire had not been officially determined, but police said they believe it started at a power pole.
