Bomb threat at U of U verified as hoax, increased police presence to remain overnight

SALT LAKE CITY — Police at the University of Utah have verified that a campus bomb threat received just after 4 p.m. was a hoax.
“Lockdowns at University Hospital and Primary Children’s Hospital will be lifted,” police said in their update.
Additional police were called to campus Wednsday afternoon, after police received a 911 call from someone claiming there were bombs on campus.
The University used the SafeUT app to warn students and others about the extra police on campus.
The University’s Department of Public Safety said similar threats were made across the nation on Wednesday.
“The hallmarks of a hoax are present with this threat,” the alert read, “out of an abundance of caution there are additional police on campus patrolling and you may see a larger police presence.”
Police ask that if anyone sees something suspicious or out of place to call UUPD at 801-585-2677.
