SALT LAKE CITY — A multi-vehicle crash involving police cars caused four southbound lanes to close on Interstate 15 in Bountiful during the morning commute Thursday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. Minor injuries were reported.
At 5:49 a.m., two police troopers were on a traffic stop with their emergency lights flashing on the right shoulder of I-15 near 400 North.
After seeing cars failing to slow down and move over, the rear trooper began moving from the shoulder into the far right lane to stop one of the vehicles that had not moved over, a spokesperson said.
“As he moved into the right lane, he was struck from behind by another vehicle. The vehicle, after striking the trooper, rolled into the left lane and struck another vehicle,” Cpl. Eddie Wright with the UHP said.
An unmarked Unified Police Department vehicle was also involved, Wright said.
All lanes opened up at around 7:15 a.m.
“We kindly remind motorists to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles to ensure the safety of our first responders,” Wright said.
