SALT LAKE CITY — A caretaker was arrested on Monday after the 3-year-old they were living with died in September.
The Vernal Police Department said they received reports on Sept. 4 about a 3-year-old that was unresponsive.
“The child was transported to the emergency room and later flown to a Wasatch Front hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” police said. “Following his death, the child was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.”
According to police, the medical examiner determined the 3-year-old was the victim of homicide due to blunt force injuries.
Police said an investigation led to the child’s caretake, 50-year-old Angela Accuttoroop, “as the sole suspect.”
“Accuttoroop was booked into the Uintah County Jail on charges of child abuse homicide,” police said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the child.”
