Church historian says members need to take care of the Earth

LOGAN — Are you a good steward of the Earth? Elder Steven E. Snow of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints thinks you can do better.
According to Elder Snow, Latter-day Saints tend to focus mostly on church duties and family responsibilities, which he says is well and good.
“But I believe we’ll also be held accountable for how we treat one another, the community in which we live, and the land that surrounds us. Even the Earth itself,” says Elder Snow.

Snow says early settlers of Utah, especially southern parts of the state, were busy trying to survive, but also took the time to preserve the beauty of the land.
“Though present residents were attracted there by that beauty, many of them are complicit in destroying it,” Snow declares.
Elder Snow gives several suggestions for being a better steward of the land, including recycling, energy conservation, and establishing a community garden.
Snow made the remarks Wednesday at an environmental stewardship symposium at Utah State University.
