SALT LAKE CITY — Fall colors, beautiful weather and a long holiday weekend could make for a congested Alpine Loop.
The road is windy and narrow to begin with, and the two-way traffic makes for a potential jam in American Fork Canyon.
“Plethora of people go up there all at once,” said Wyatt Woolley with the Utah Department of Transportation.
“And this weekend we’re anticipating the same because it is a three-day weekend. It is still quite warm out and the leaves are changing. It’s very beautiful and we understand that,” he said.
Transportation officials are pleading with the public to pay attention and park only where it is allowed. They ask that you make sure your car tires are completely off the road. Emergency vehicles need the room to pass through.
“There’s a couple pullouts that you can go to if you need to pull off and your tires need to be off the pavement. That’s legally acceptable,” said Woolley.
There will be some law enforcement in the area however, officials mostly hope the public will obey the rules.
