1 dead, 2 others in serious condition after multi-vehicle crash closes Highway 6

SALT LAKE CITY — One person is dead and two others are in serious condition after a multi-vehicle crash closed Highway 6 from Canyon Road to Spanish Fork Parkway on Sunday night.
“A truck pulling a horse trailer was Westbound on Highway 6 and collided with several vehicles that were stopped at a red light at Spanish Fork Parkway,” the Spanish Fork Police Department said. “Two people were transported to a local hospital in serious condition. One of those transported, an 85-year-old female, later passed away.”
Lt. Cory Slaymaker with the SFPD confirmed on Tuesday that the 85-year-old was identified as Mary Jacobson of Utah County. He said on Sunday at least six vehicles were involved in the crash that happened at 7:50 p.m.
According to police, others who were injured in the crash sustained minor injuries. Four horses were in the horse trailer and one horse had a broken leg caused by the crash.
By 9 p.m., both directions on Highway 6 were closed as traffic was being diverted onto Canyon Road due to the crash.
The crash is still under investigation by police.
