EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah– More than one thousand homes in Eagle Mountain are under a watering restriction after officials found low levels of water in one of the city’s tanks.

The restriction requires residents to stop outdoor watering, said Eagle Mountain spokesman Tyler Maffitt.

“Essentially it is asking the homes in that geographic area to refrain from watering their lawns through the end of the weekend, ” Maffitt said.

The homes in question are north of State Route 73. Homeowners were asked to stop watering their lawns through Sunday, July 14.

Eagle Mountain residents could pay fines for not following the city’s restrictions. Violators will get a warning at first, followed by a $100 fine if there are more violations.

Reasons for the watering restriction

“One, we want to make sure quality services continue. This is also to ensure that fire safety standards are met and that if a wildfire happens we can fight it effectively without interrupting any services,” Maffitt said.

City officials want to make sure the tanks are full in case of emergencies.

“We know that temperatures are very very warm and we will really see what the water usage in the impacted area is after that time, “Maffitt said.

Officials hope the tank will refill enough by the end of the weekend to stop the restriction.
