Election day food drives to be held at polling centers in Utah County cities

SALT LAKE CITY — Four different food drives are being held this Tuesday, corresponding with polling locations in American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Provo and Vineyard for Election Day.

Community Action Services and Food Bank partnered with the four cities in Utah County, encouraging citizens to bring extra food with them to help individuals struggling to afford groceries this November.

According to Jessica Miller, Chief Impact Officer for Community Action Services and Food Bank, up to 11,000 families in Utah County have been impacted by the SNAP shutdown. The food bank expects to see an increase in daily demand of more than 5,000 lbs. of food. 

The “Get Out The Food” campaign encourages citizens to improve the wellbeing of their fellow citizens by both voting and donating.

Community Action Services is looking for the following items: 

• Canned Soups (all flavors)
• Canned Fruit
• Peanut Butter
• Jelly or Jam
• Macaroni & Cheese
• Kid-Friendly Cereal
• Canned Meat (tuna, chicken, beef, salmon)
• Canned Veggies (corn, peas, carrots)
• Kids diapers (all sizes, most in need of sizes 4, 5, 6, 7, and pull ups) and wipes
• Adult diapers (all sizes, most in need of sizes L, XL)

Citizens arriving to vote can either deposit food donations at the food barrels at these locations or scan a QR code to participate in a virtual food drive. 

Donations can also be dropped off at Community Action Services, 815 S Freedom Blvd, Ste 100, Provo, UT 84601.
