Girls, 13, killed in collision between truck and electric scooter

SYRACUSE, Utah — Two children, both aged 13, were killed in Syracuse Wednesday when the electric scooter they were riding collided with a pickup truck.
Police said the two girls were riding the scooter on Heritage Parkway just after 1 p.m. when they crashed at the intersection of Banbury Drive.

In a news release shared on Facebook, Syracuse Police Chief Alex Davis said the driver of the pickup truck was heading south on Banbury Drive when his vehicle collided with the electric scooter, which was westbound on Heritage Parkway. The two collided in the intersection. Police said the pickup driver remained on scene and was cooperating with investigators.
“Emergency personnel provided immediate medical care at the scene; tragically, both juveniles were pronounced deceased due to the severity of their injuries,” Davis wrote.
“The loss of two young lives is a tragedy that will be felt throughout our community. Please keep all those affected in your thoughts and show respect to the families as they grieve.”
The department could not say what led up to the crash. It remains under investigation with assistance from Utah Highway Patrol, police said.
