EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah — Facebook has opened the new Eagle Mountain Data Center  and it is now online and serving users. This means the center is now part of all things Facebook including all apps and services used by Facebook’s billions of users.

State and local leaders support the new Eagle Mountain Data Center

In a press release Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox said, “We are thrilled to have Facebook in Utah. We think Eagle Mountain is a pretty special place, and we’re glad Facebook agrees and decided to build a data center here.” Governor Cox is only one of many state and local leaders  who have welcomed Facebook to Utah county.

Eagle Mountain Mayor Tom Westmoreland added, “The opportunity our students have to rub shoulders with people who are literally changing the world in technology is a great inspiration to our kids here.”

Community partnerships and jobs developed

Since Facebook has opened the new  Data Center, it has provided approximately $2 million in community support since 2018. This is nearly $1 million to local schools, small businesses and nonprofit organizations as part of our COVID-19 relief efforts. The statement described their  partnership with Trout Unlimited to invest in the Provo River water restoration project. This venture will ensure 416 million gallons of water remain in the river during the hottest months of the year, helping endangered species and sportfish.

The press release explained, “Once fully built, the Eagle Mountain Data Center will represent an investment of more than $1 billion in the state of Utah and support more than 200 jobs.”

Construction of the nearly 2.4 million-square-foot campus has resulted in 1,250 construction workers on-site daily at peak.
