Family, friends, gather to remember the life of Capt. Merrill Bone

HOLLDAY, Utah — Funeral services for Unified Fire Authority Capt. Merrill Bone held held Saturday at Olympus High School.
Capt. Bone died Oct. 31 from COVID-19 complications. His death was considered to be in the line of duty, and his funeral services were treated as such.
Larkin Mortuary in Riverton was lined with first responders and other emergency personnel just prior to the procession to Olympus High School. The procession left Riverton at 7:30 a.m. it arrived at Olympus around 8 a.m.
Unified Fire Authority Captain Craig Outzen spoke at Saturday’s service.
“I’m going to miss him a lot,” Outzen said. “I’ll miss having one of the most genuine and sincere people I’ve ever had in my life.”
Bone began his career with the Salt Lake City Fire Department. After 20 years of service with SLCFD, Bone retired in 2006. During his time with SLCFD, Bone was also a member of Utah Task Force 1, and had been deployed to New York City, following the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
Shortly after his retirement from SLCFD, Bone joined Unified Fire. During his time with Unified Fire, Bone had served as paramedic. He was promoted to Captain in 2013.
In a social media post last week announcing his death, Unified Fire wrote: “Captain Bone, although, you may be gone, you will never be forgotten,” the statement read.
