3 federal buildings in Utah no longer on US government’s ‘disposal’ list

SALT LAKE CITY — Three federal buildings in Utah that the government was planning on selling off as part of federal cuts might not be on the chopping block anymore.

The U.S. General Services Administration released a list earlier this month of hundreds of federal buildings that were “designated for disposal.”

The list included the IRS Service Center in Ogden, a St. George federal building, and the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building in Salt Lake City.

The list now only includes eight properties and the Utah buildings aren’t on it.

The Utah federal buildings could still be a target

However, that could still change. The GSA said the list would “continue to be updated.”

If the buildings do end up getting sold, it’s unclear what’ll happen to the hundreds of employees, including those at the Ogden Internal Revenue Service office.

National Treasury Employees Union local chapter President Robert Lawrence said Ogden IRS workers are already dealing with a headache after they were ordered to return to the office.

“We have people teleworking in hallways at the IRS, in conference rooms,” Lawrence said.

The GSA declined KSL NewsRadio’s request for an interview but said in a statement it is focused on reducing the burden on taxpayers while also enabling agencies to keep doing their jobs
