Corner Canyon High School raises over $57 thousand for Make-A-Wish

DRAPER, Utah — Students at Corner Canyon High School raised more than $57,000 toward Make-A-Wish, granting at least seven wishes for Utah children experiencing severe illnesses.
After a monthlong effort to raise funds, student government leaders revealed during a school assembly Friday the student body raised $57,666 for Make-A-Wish.
Throughout the month of December, CCHS students hosted several fundraising events — pitting the four class years in competition to see who could raise the most money. The total follows a month of socially distant and masked events, such as ping pong and spikeball tournaments.
“During these unprecedented times, hope is essential to our community,” said Jared Perry, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Utah, in a statement. “Wishes bring hope to families when they need it most and the power of a wish extends beyond only the families we serve; it impacts our volunteers, donors, and our entire community. We are deeply grateful for the students, faculty and individuals at Corner Canyon High School for helping us bring hope to so many with their generosity and determination to give.”
Roughly 25% of the student body attended the assembly Thursday with the rest of students tuning in virtually. Before revealing the final tally, the school showed videos from local Make-A-Wish kids and leadership.
On average, each wish costs roughly $5,000 to accomplish. However, the costs are quickly rising amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the organization.
As a result, the money raised by Corner Canyon will grant at least seven wishes in 2021.
