SALT LAKE CITY — A fire destroyed a home in Central, Washington County, on Wednesday. Officials said nobody was home when the fire started, but pets were killed inside.
Central Fire Chief Ralph Flores said crews were dispatched to a home on Sumac Drive on reports of a fire just after 11 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, they found the backside of the house engulfed in flames. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to other homes and nearby juniper trees, but the fire spread throughout the house, Flores said.
The chief confirmed that two dogs and three cats were killed in the fire, and the home was considered a total loss.
Flores said the homeowners were notified and the Red Cross was responding. The cause of the fire was still under investigation, and the chief said fire crews were still on scene monitoring the situation.
Multiple fire agencies responded to fight the blaze, including Enterprise Fire, Dammeron Valley Fire and Rescue, Pine Valley Fire and EMS, Diamond Valley Fire and Veyo Fire.
