KEARNS – A man was fatally shot in the chest early Sunday morning after he said he could “dodge a bullet,” according to Unified Police Department.

According to the booking affidavit, the incident occurred at the residence of 269 S. Charlotte Ave.

UPD said they received a call from a man with a gunshot wound to his chest.

When officers arrived, they said Dylan Treichel, 23, was lying in the garage unresponsive. Treichel was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

The affidavit stated Treichel and the suspect, Aston Jonathon Mann were smoking marijuana and playing video games when they began talking about handguns.

They went to the garage to talk without waking anyone else in the house, according to the affidavit.

Police said both men were handling two different firearms when Treichel said he could dodge a bullet.

According to the affidavit, Mann pointed the gun at Treichel as he jumped out of the way six times to prove he could dodge the bullet.

Mann said to reset the trigger, he would cycle the slide on the handgun, according to the affidavit.

Police said the firearm went off the final time, striking Treichel in the chest. Mann ran inside to grab his wife’s phone to call the police, before returning to the garage to aid Treichel before police arrived.

Aymee Race with UPD said Mann was charged with manslaughter and a category 2 restricted person because of the substances in use at the time.

Treichel was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.
