Brush fire in Spanish Fork ‘suspicious,’ city says

SPANISH FORK — Flames rose near a Spanish Fork neighborhood after a brush fire sparked on Tuesday. It’s now being investigated as human-caused.

Deputy Fire Chief Krista Horting said that the fire was under control after 2 p.m.

 

There was no official word yet on what caused the fire, but the city of Spanish Fork said it was being investigated as “suspicious and human-caused.”

Spanish Fork said in total, the brush fire burned 11 acres south of Hidden Springs Park and northeast of Rees Elementary School, in the Legacy Farms area.

The Spanish Fork Fire Department said fire crews got to the blaze at approximately 12:21 p.m.

“With the help of our partners at Mapleton City Fire Department, Springville Fire & Rescue, Springville Firefighters Local 5439, Woodland Hills Fire Department, Spanish Fork Police Department, and Utah County Fire Department, crews were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire before it could spread further,” the department said on Facebook.

The fire department warned residents that grass and brush is already dry, even though it might not feel like fire season. It urged people to be “mindful with open flames, equipment, and anything that could ignite dry vegetation.”

The city asked anybody who might know something about the fire or who saw anything suspicious to call the fire department at 801-804-4703.

KSL hadn’t received any reports of any damage to buildings.
