SALT LAKE CITY — Utah lawmakers are figuring out how to pay for development at Point of the Mountain so they don’t lose 150,000 future jobs there.

Consultants for the state Legislature say the area will need a major north-south boulevard near I-15.

It would run from “the (state) prison site down to the Thanksgiving Point area so people don’t have to get on the freeway,” Envision Utah CEO Robert Grow told the Legislature’s Economic Development and Workforce Services Interim Committee.

Grow also said Point of the Mountain will also need “a much more detailed, connected street network and world-class public transit to the (state) prison site” in Draper, which should be relocated west of Salt Lake City International Airport by 2021.

Grow also told legislators Utah must invest billions of dollars in transit, or else lose 150,000 jobs by 2050. He presented his report on Wednesday.

“You’ll lose support jobs and other jobs in our economy, annual income to the state,” he said, estimating that number at $8 billion over 33 years.

We want to hear from you.
