Detectives have ‘several leads’ into Saratoga Springs deaths, police say

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Much remains unknown about the deaths of a Saratoga Springs mother and child who were found with gunshot wounds in late March. But the Saratoga Springs Police Department said detectives have several leads into what it’s calling a homicide investigation.

On March 28, police officers found 44-year-old Jessica Lyman and her 8-year-old son Eli Painter after they had both been shot. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and Lyman died later in the hospital.

“Since the incident, the Saratoga Springs Police Department, with assistance from multiple partner agencies, has been actively and diligently investigating this case,” the Saratoga Springs Police Department said in a press release Wednesday. “Detectives have developed several leads through ongoing investigative efforts and evidence collection. Investigators continue to thoroughly process additional evidence as it becomes available.”

Limited public information about Saratoga Springs incident

The department said it wouldn’t release any more information at the time of publication, “due to the sensitive nature of this case and its ongoing status.”

In mid-April, search warrant documents revealed some information about the case, including that police found no indication of forced entry into Lyman’s home where the two victims were shot. There was also no weapon in plain view.

Documents also revealed that doorbell cameras saw a “figure” walking in front of the home hours before Lyman and Painter were found. No word on who that might have been.

The Saratoga Springs Police Department has said it doesn’t believe there is any danger to the public in relation to this case. The department asked anyone with information that could aid investigators to call 801-766-6503.
