OGDEN — A man was arrested Friday night for firing a handgun in a local bar at another patron, according to Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
The booking affidavit stated Carlos Mendez, 40, entered a local bar in Ogden. Surveillance footage showed Mendez staring at another man from across the bar, according to the affidavit.
Police said Mendez left the bar and allegedly asked staff to turn off the security cameras. A few minutes later, the affidavit stated that Mendez entered through the back door of the bar and fired two rounds at the man.
Mendez escaped through the back door before smashing through a wooden fence at the rear of the bar, according to the affidavit.
Police said the suspect was wearing a purple hoodie, a black overcoat, and a hat.
According to probable cause, Mendez was later located and arrested at a gas station before a search warrant was issued to check his house.
Although the firearm was not found, the affidavit stated police found the hat Mendez wore at the bar.
Mendez was booked into Weber County Jail for two felony counts of discharge of a firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon by a category 1 restricted person, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
