Man arrested for DUI with six children in his vehicle

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — South Jordan police arrested a 37-year-old man this week after causing an accident, while under the influence of alcohol. All of this happened with six children in the backseat of his vehicle.
Police say the man driving southbound on 4000 West (in the area of 11386 South) and “was traveling at a very high rate of speed” before losing control of the vehicle.
According to police documents, the automobile was slowed by a guard rail. The guard rail prevented the vehicle from going off the road and down a 30-foot retaining wall.
The children were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. According to police, only one of the children was wearing a seat belt. The other five were not in safety restraints, including a 4-year-old.
Police say there was evidence of physical impairment. A breath test performed on the driver confirmed the incident to be a DUI.
The man refused medical treatment and transportation to a hospital, according to police documents. He was, however, arrested for investigation of six counts of driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle, six counts of reckless endangerment and four counts of failure to safely secure children in a seat belt.
