Man found dead in San Juan River

SALT LAKE CITY – A man died after the National Park Service said he was overtaken by river currents in the San Juan River Sunday.
According to a release from the National Park Service, a 50-year-old man who was a resident of Kayenta, Arizona, was in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area when he was “overtaken by river currents downstream of Paiute Farms Wash in the San Juan River in San Juan County, Utah.”

According to the release, the Navajo Nation Police Department led a search and recovery effort and located the man deceased, “presumed to have drowned.”
“Our sympathies go to the family, friends, and our local communities impacted by this loss,” Jake Ohlson, acting superintendent, said in a release.
Following the fatality, the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area encouraged visitors to “be aware of moving water as currents can be deceptively strong.”
