Salt Lake County likely has its first measles case, health officials say

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County likely has its first case of measles, health officials said Wednesday.
The Salt Lake County Health Department said it was made aware of a “probable case” of measles on Monday, then it spent Tuesday attempting to confirm it. However, the department said the patient “declined to be tested, or to fully participate in our disease investigation.”
The department said that since the patient would not cooperate, officials couldn’t technically confirm they had the disease, and couldn’t warn anybody who may have been in contact with them.
“But based on the specific symptoms reported by the healthcare provider and the limited conversation our investigators have had with the patient, this is very likely a case of measles in someone living in Salt Lake County,” said Dorothy Adams, SLCoHD executive director.
