60,000 passengers expected to depart SLC Airport ahead of Memorial Day weekend

SALT LAKE CITY — Memorial Day weekend is the traditional kick-off to summer travel. Airport officials said to plan for high volumes of travelers before the holiday.
According to Nancy Volmer with the Salt Lake City International Airport, Thursday and Friday will be the busiest travel days of the holiday weekend.
“We’re expecting about 30,000 passengers to come through the front door each day,” Volmer said.
Volmer advised people to avoid peak times or plan around them.
“For example, 7 [and] 10 a.m. are very popular times. As are 4, 8 and 10 p.m.”
Volmer said passengers need their Real IDs and to pack carefully, especially their carry-on bags. She also suggested arriving early and reserving a parking spot.
The Salt Lake City International Airport website offers additional information and resources for people who are preparing to travel, Volmer said.
“We recognize that there’s a lot of people who haven’t been traveling. And now that school’s out, people are traveling for the summer, there’s probably some reminders that will be helpful that we have on our website, as far as rules for traveling with liquids. Also, if someone hasn’t been through the new SLC, we have a link to our airport map.”
