Midvale City Council to vote on regulating pet sales, protecting buyers

MIDVALE — The Midvale City Council is voting Tuesday on how pets are sold in the city.
The Council says it’s in everyone’s best interest that they prohibit the sale of any cat, dog, or rabbit in pet shops or other stores that doesn’t come from an animal shelter, animal control, or non-profit organization.
The Council also wants to implement protections for people buying pets by making it unlawful for anyone to sell a sick animal or one that has a congenital or hereditary condition without notifying the buyer.
The Humane Society of Utah fully supports the ordinance.
“We applaud Midvale City for wanting to be part of the solution to pet overpopulation and customer protection since there is no pet lemon law in Utah at this time,” says Humane Society of Utah Executive Director Gene Baierschmidt.
The Midvale City Council will take public comment before voting on the ordinance Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
