MILLCREEK, Utah– After extensive clean-up efforts and heavy rain,  water quality issues in Mill Creek Stream have been resolved. The Utah Department of Environmental Quality announced Monday the stream is open to the public for irrigation and recreation.

Concrete spill in Mill Creek Stream

Concrete was spilled in the stream on Thursday after a construction accident, which caused PH levels in the water to increase. The Utah Department of Transportation reported the increased PH levels in Mill Creek Stream could cause skin irritations if humans or pets came into contact with the water.

Drinking water in the area near the spill was never in danger. The Utah Department of Environmental Quality said drinking water is completely separate from the stream.

The stream was off-limits to pets and residents from west of I-215 and extending to 700 East in Salt Lake City.

Previous reporting.

Residents in the area with questions or concerns should call 844-909-3278.
