SALT LAKE CITY — A 22-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday after leading a police chase through Salt Lake County on Mountain View Corridor, according to police.
The Saratoga Springs Police Department said the man was driving in a pickup truck while drunk and was spotted at approximately 2:11 a.m. in Bluffdale. An officer observed the truck hitting multiple cars on the city’s east side.
Another responding officer arrived near the area and was also hit by the man as he fled onto Mountain View Corridor, according to police.
Multiple agencies helped track the driver, and a few attempted to deploy spikes to stop him. One attempt succeeded on the highway, near the 3500 South exit in West Valley City.
The end of the pursuit was caught on a traffic surveillance camera in the area at approximately 2:40 a.m. About eight police cars could be seen following the truck, with more trailing behind to divert traffic.
Just before the end, the truck was seen crossing the ravine between the northbound and southbound lanes. The truck flipped around and a police car made contact, pushing the truck for a moment as it headed back onto the northbound side.
The truck then finally came to rest, hitting the barrier, perpendicular to the lanes of traffic. The driver was taken into custody.
Police did not provide the driver’s name immediately and said charges in the case were pending.
This is a developing story. It may be updated.
