SALT LAKE CITY – One person was killed after a semitruck veered off the road, crashing on Interstate 80 near Salt Lake City Sunday, according to the Department of Public Safety.
At approximately 9:20 a.m., the DPS said a semitruck was traveling westbound on I-80. Near milemarker 110, “For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway to the left and went into the center median,” the DPS said.
The semitruck rolled onto the passenger side and reportedly “made contact with the center cable barrier.”
The two occupants of the semitruck were extricated by medical personnel, the DPS said.
The department said the driver was taken to a hospital by a medical helicopter, where they were later pronounced dead.
The passenger of the semitruck was transported to a hospital, but their condition was not immediately known.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to DPS.
One lane of the interstate was closed following the crash, which was later reopened, according to the Utah Department of Transportation. Delays were expected for those traveling on eastbound lanes due to the semitruck crash.
