SALT LAKE CITY — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a family dispute in Coalville Thursday night. When they got there, police said a man was barricaded inside a home.
Sgt. Skyler Talbot with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said there was one person barricaded in the area of 300 South and Main Street. Officers were trying to negotiate to get the individual to come out.
“Due to the criminal conduct that occurred prior to deputies’ arrival, along with additional safety concerns, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Park City Police joint SWAT team was called to the scene,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
The release said authorities were briefly able to make contact with the man inside the home, but he was uncooperative.
The sheriff’s office said law enforcement sent a drone into the house, and saw the man. It appeared he had a self-inflicted injury, and police confirmed he was dead after they entered the home.
The sheriff’s office said the incident was actively under investigation.
