Open house and dedication dates announced for McAllen Texas Temple

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday the open house and dedication dates for the McAllen Texas Temple.
A public open house for the temple will begin on Friday, Aug. 23, and will run through Saturday, Sept. 9, with the exception of Sundays. Prior to the open house, a media day will be held on Monday, Aug. 21. Invited guests will tour the temple Aug. 22-24.
The McAllen Texas Temple will then be dedicated on Sunday, Oct. 8 in two sessions. Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf will preside at the dedication.
The temple was first announced in October 2019 by President Russell M. Nelson. A groundbreaking ceremony in November 2020 marked the beginning of the construction of the temple.
After its dedication, the McAllen Texas Temple will be the fifth operating temple in Texas. The others are: Dallas, Houston, Lubbock and San Antonio. Additionally, the church also has plans for temples in Fort Worth, Austin and Prosper.
