Fisherman rescued from water at Echo State Park

SALT LAKE CITY — Medical units responded to a water incident that occurred at Echo State Park in Summit County on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Sgt. Skyler Talbot with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said a man was in Echo’s reservoir, and he was hanging onto a boat near the boat launch area.

“At this point, the individual has been recovered from the water,” Talbot said. “There are units on scene right now, but they have an air ambulance en route.”

According to the North Summit Fire Service District (NSFD), the man was a fisherman who fell out of his boat.

Talbot said the fisherman was pulled from the water by another person, who was then able to drive them both to the main boat docks. That’s where Talbot said medical was waiting for them.

The man is now in the hospital, and NSFD said he was in critical condition when he left the scene by medical helicopter.

“With spring temperatures keeping water dangerously cold, NSFD reminds everyone to take extra precautions when near or on the water,” the NSFD said.

The NSFD also said they commend the people who helped the fisherman get to the medics.

“Even as air temperatures rise, the water remains cold and can quickly lead to hypothermia. Always wear a life jacket and use extreme caution, especially this time of year,” NSFD Battalion Chief Tyler Rowser said in the Facebook post.
