Plane lands on I-80 near Grantsville

GRANTSVILLE – A plane landed on Interstate 80 Sunday morning near Grantsville, causing some lane closures.
In a press release, the Utah Highway Patrol stated that troopers were informed that a small airplane was losing altitude while preparing for an emergency landing on the interstate.
Troopers began to slow down traffic in the area to allow the plane to safely land on the road.
Soon after, UHP was informed that the plane had safely landed on I-80 and was on the right shoulder of the road. UHP reported that the plane landed without damaging the road or any other vehicles.

“Preliminarily it appeared that the aircraft left Wendover Airport and experienced an unknown mechanical issue,” the UHP press release stated. “(The pilot) was forced to land on the freeway because it could not make it to an airport.”
Due to the plane landing, the right lane of eastbound I-80 was closed, the Utah Department of Transportation said in a post on X. The road was closed until crews were able to remove the plane from the road.
