Police documents shed light on Price SWAT situation, say man kidnapped 3 people

SALT LAKE CITY — After police arrested a man in Price on Friday for alleged kidnapping and assault, police documents show authorities believe he held three people captive and pointed a gun at their heads.
62-year-old Rogelio Bustillos was taken into custody on what police said were aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and aggravated assault charges from an incident that happened on Thursday, police said.
A probable cause statement for the incident said Bustillos “had forced entry into a residence in Price” on two separate occasions on Thursday night and Friday morning.
During the first incident, the statement said, Bustillos broke into the home, walked into a bedroom and shook a victim awake, pointing a gun at him. He then “began demanding to know if the victim was sleeping with his wife.”
“The victim told (Bustillos) he had nothing to do with his wife and was not sleeping with her… (Bustillos) seemed to accept this answer and left the residence at that time,” the statement said.
However, that wasn’t the end of it. In the early hours of the following morning, documents said Bustillos returned to the home, this time finding three different people inside.
The statement said he proceeded to wake up two people in the house and point a gun at them. Again, he demanded that “they disclose where (Bustillos’) wife is at and (accused) both victims of sleeping with her.”
Another man in the house woke up to the commotion and walked into the room where the first two were being held, the statement said. Bustillos allegedly pointed the gun at him as well, forcing him to sit with the other two.
Documents said Bustillos told the victims, “If they do not give him the information he wants, he would kill them.” The victims reportedly told police they were held by the man for two hours.
“After some time had passed, (Bustillos) receives a phone call, and the victims can overhear the other party telling (Bustillos) to let them live, leave them alone. Go home and get some sleep,” the statement said.
At this time, Bustillos reportedly told the three men to get on their bicycles and go to a local restaurant where they worked. They complied and the man followed them there before taking off. It was about this time that officers began looking for him, eventually finding him in the hills between Price and neighboring Helper, the statement said.
Documents also said Bustillos was found to have a white powder believed to be cocaine while he was being booked into jail.
Bustillos is accused of 12 felony offenses related to aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, commercial obstruction, possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
