ROY — Police officers were searching for a black SUV they say hit a woman in the front yard of a home and then fled the scene on Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Josh Taylor with the Roy Police Department said the vehicle went over a curb, struck the 51-year-old woman and then hit a fence in the area of 4800 South and 2950 East in Roy.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital. Her injuries were not immediately known, but Taylor said she didn’t appear to be seriously hurt.
The driver reportedly left the scene of the accident.
The Roy Police Department later posted photos of the vehicle believed to be involved in the collision:
“Do you recognize this vehicle?” the police department asked on Facebook. “The vehicle is believed to be a dark charcoal 2019 to 2024 Toyota RAV 4. The vehicle will have damage to the front grill and headlight assembly.”
Police were still gathering surveillance video from the area. Taylor said they were looking for a black SUV, but did not have a description of the driver.
A resident of the home said he wasn’t there at the time of the accident, but he and his wife had been waiting for an accident like that to happen. He said cars frequently drive too fast there.
“Cars come down here at 55 mph taking the turn… You know, we’ve been living here for four years and my wife and I have been saying that somebody is probably going to take out our fence one day,” said resident Dave Osborne. “And today was the day, I guess.”

Osborne said the car was definitely damaged, because he picked up some car parts off the ground.
“You can see the tire tracks where it came up. It doesn’t look like they hit their brakes at all,” Osborne said. “I’m hoping that lady recovers and she’s okay, and hopefully they catch this guy.”
Roy Police asked anybody with information to call Weber Consolidated Dispatch at 801-395-8221.
